Larry Butler
Larry Butler has been a professional
consultant for over 30 years. He got his start with
The Boston Consulting Group where he was senior manager
responsible for a variety of strategy and organizational
development assignments on behalf of corporate and institutional
clients. In 1973, he and a colleague left BCG to establish
Institutional Strategy Associates through which he assisted
a broad range of clients in addressing governance, marketing,
organizational and financial issues in a strategic context.
Over the years, he has facilitated
planning and change management processes in organizations
ranging from small family businesses to large Fortune
500 companies as well as a broad array of nonprofit
institutions. Most recently, he was a principal with
The Ross Group where he focused on leadership development,
team-building and culture transformation. His earlier
business experience included positions in the advertising
and publishing fields. Larry is a Senior Fellow and
former Chairman of The Cheswick Center, an organization
dedicated to improving the practice of corporate and
nonprofit governance.
As an outgrowth of that work, he assists
organizations in improving the communicative power of
governance and senior management information. His writings
on this subject include: A Guide to Board Information
Systems, Association of Governing Boards of Universities
and Colleges, 1999; and A New Tool for the Board's Kit:
Board Information Systems and DashBoard Reports, The
Governance Institute, 1999. He taught "Management of
Social Issues and Business Ethics" at Northeastern University
and has been a featured speaker at numerous seminars
and conferences under the auspices of institutions such
as: Harvard Business School, Harvard School of Public
Health, Association of Governing Boards of Universities
and Colleges and The Governance Institute.
An accomplished illustrator and caricaturist,
Larry was for several years an editorial cartoonist
with The Boston Herald and Boston Phoenix. He currently
pursues these activities through his design studio DrawingPower
on behalf of business clients seeking visually creative
ways to build their customer and donor bases. Larry
holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA magna
cum laude from Harvard College.
